You’re most likely to recognize Terry Haas for her recurring role on HGTV’s hit show “Designed to Sell.” Now in her fourth season as one of the show’s featured real estate agents, Terry shows millions of viewers how staging a home, improving curb appeal and making low-cost improvements can help to sell a property at top dollar.
But the TV show is far from the only thing Terry has going. She is partner in a real estate group, has her own home-staging consulting business, and recently co-wrote a downloadable e-book sharing her insights into preparing a house for sale. Terry also spends time sharing her real estate and networking expertise as a featured speaker for realtor associations, professional and community groups, and other organizations.
Terry describes her daily job as one of networking, meeting people and finding connections to help her clients and company. “Being invited to be a part of other’s major decisions about housing, money and lifestyle is a big responsibility that I take very seriously and with a great deal of humbled pride,” she says. And how does she balance it all? Well, she swears one of her secrets is Pinterest — really!

What drew you to your job?
I was drawn to my work because of my love of people and the thrill of the 'game' of real estate.
What does your job involve on a daily basis, and what types of responsibilities do you have in your position?
I am a networker! My job is to meet people, find connections, be engaged and make them remember me and my company. Helping people is my No. 1 job.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Networking with people and being an active member in the community is my favorite part of my job. Being invited to be a part of other's major decisions about housing, money and lifestyle is a big responsibility that I take very seriously and with a great deal of humbled pride.
What challenges keep you awake at night?
Did I work hard enough and get the information to the client fast enough? Did I spread myself out enough so neither my family or clients, or friends get shorted in any way?
What are you afraid of?
I'm afraid of not knowing true joy ... not knowing what real love feels like ... not getting to be a Mom. (I am working very hard on 'true joy' every day, and I get to be a mom. It's amazing.)
Is work/life balance ever a problem with you? If so, what is one no-fail tactic you use to create balance?
Absolutely! It Is hard to be a mom/boss/wife/realtor/public figure. I wish I had some magical answer for this.
But, I use Pinterest! I know, it's not all that deep and complex, but it is true and it does help.
I also host a party, cook for all my friends and serve as the glue for everyone. I love to be around people and make everyone feel good and loved.
Was there ever a moment in your career where you’ve thought, “I can't believe I have this job?" What was it?
Every day I think, "How cool is my life?"
I get to be out in the public, on television, live in my version of paradise, be married to an amazing guy, be gifted with beautiful/healty children, have great friends and I also get to control my own destiny by owning my own business.
Also, the night of the March of Dimes event where I was the host and chair was very special. I looked out into the audience and could not breathe. I had been involved in greatness that year, and it all came together in one night along with my friends, people that supported me and the community -- just because 'I asked'.
What are some of the rules you live by?
-Treat people nicely.
-Be positive and be fair.
-Say yes to life.
-You get back what you put out. Be careful.
-You only have your integrity and your reputation.
-You better be good to everyone and not just the people you think can benefit you. You have no idea what someone is capable of and how they will be a part of the puzzle.
-What qualities does one need to possess to be successful in your line of work?
-Be bold and decide on positive results. You will create your story -- good or bad.
-Be honest and be authentic to who you are. You must be willing to work hard -- smart -- but hard.
-And for the love of Pete ... Don’t burn bridges!
What one piece of advice do you wish you could tell a 21-year-old version of yourself?
Life is so much fun! There are only a few things that really matter. Be thankful for what your parents did for you and how you were raised. Don't be afraid of falling down; you will get up and be better and stronger.
