Angie Dudley, author of the blog Bakerella, is the creator of the precious – and delicious – cupcake pops. When Angie first started making cupcake pops, she didn’t realize how popular they would become, especially how quickly the trend would catch on. But the world was charmed. Martha Stewart loved them so much she even invited Angie on her show. And, really, how could you not love these things: Check out the Mr. Potato Head and Garfield pops. We dare you not to like them.

Angie got the bug for baking after taking an introductory cake decorating class and just hasn’t stopped since – inspiration for those of us without a culinary degree. She started Bakerella to chronicle her adventures testing out different recipes, desserts and decorating ideas. The site focuses on fun and easy baking, including ideas for, of course, cupcake pops but also cakes, pies, cupcakes, cookies, brownies and more. It’s complete with beautiful pictures of her creations and witty commentary about the process. Angie is also the author of the recipe book Cake Pops: “I would never have thought of myself having a book. Ever. Especially one about cake on a stick.” Read on for some sweet inspiration.

If it's being a blogger, I'd say just jump in. That's what I did. Feet first without a plan.

How did you discover your current job?

I took a cake decorating class a few years ago and was completely inspired to bake and make cute little cakes. I started taking pictures of my baked goods and posted my photos on flickr.com. At the same time, I decided to start a blog to chronicle all my adventures in the kitchen.

What is your typical day like? What types of things do you do in your job?

Usually, I bake and photograph sweets on Saturdays and then edit photos and write my post on Sunday evening. I do my best to post something new to the blog each week. Then the rest of the week is spent at my real job.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? The most challenging?

The most rewarding part of my job is definitely the emails I receive from readers that share their wonderful stories of how cake pops have changed their lives. Either by inspiring them to try something they didn't think they could do or by giving them a way to make extra money or by bringing their families closer together through food. The most challenging part of my job is juggling everything with the blog while still working full-time.

What is the biggest personal sacrifice you have to make because of your job?

My biggest sacrifice is not having enough free weekends.

What is one lesson you've learned in your job that sticks with you?

Persistence. Don't give up.

Who are your role models?

My mom. She's my hero in more ways than one. She's given me life twice. The second time by donating her kidney to me.

What are some of the rules you live by?

Have fun along the way.

What advice do you have for women who want to be in your industry?

Well, if it's being a blogger, I'd say just jump in. That's what I did. Feet first without a plan. If it's something in baking, I'd say try interning at a bakery to see if it's something you will really like.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?

Hopefully still having as much fun as I am now.
